Understanding Parts of Speech in Hindi / English

Ok, so now you know what different types of Parts of Speech in English are. Now, let us understand more about them and how you can use those while creating any sentence.

तो चलिए अब देखते हऐं कि पार्टस ओफ स्पीच का वाक्य बनाने में कैसे प्रयोग किया जाता है।

Understanding Core Parts of Speech in Hindi

कोर एक speech का सबसे बुनियादी और महत्वपूर्ण हिस्सा है। कोई भी वाक्य बिना Core के नहीं बन सकता।

As the name suggests, Core is the most basic and important part of a speech. You can’t form any sentence without having the core part. The Core is divided again into three parts which are:

1. Noun (संज्ञा)

The Noun is a word used as the name of any person, a place, a thing, quantity, a state, an action, or any condition of love & time. Noun generally represents the Subject or the Object in a sentence.

संज्ञा एक ऐसा शब्द है जो किसी भी व्यक्ति, स्थान, वस्तु, मात्रा, अवस्था, क्रिया या प्रेम और समय की किसी स्थिति के नाम के रूप में प्रयोग किया जाता है। संज्ञा आम तौर पर एक वाक्य में Subject या Object के बारे में बताती है।

e.g., Kunal writes a poem.

Kunal is the Noun acting as Subject, and Poem is the Noun acting as Object.

इस वाक्य में Kunal एक Subject है जो कि Object यानि की Poem पर क्रिया कर रहा है।

Types of Nouns

There are 10 types of Nouns, but in general, we consider only 5 types of Nouns. Here are all 10 types of Nouns. You may find only 5 or 3 nouns in most books. The most important nouns are Proper Noun and Common Noun.

  • Proper Noun
  • Common Noun
  • Material Noun
  • bstract Noun
  • Collective Noun
  • Countable Noun
  • Un-Countable Noun
  • Concrete Noun
  • Compound Noun
  • Possessive Noun

2. Pronoun (सर्वनाम)

After Noun, here come another core Parts of Speech. The Pronouns are words which are used in place of Nouns. We cannot use Noun again and again. Hence, a Pronoun replaces the Noun. Sometimes we also refer to Pronouns as substituting words.

सर्वनाम वे शब्द हैं जो की संज्ञा के स्थान पर प्रयोग किए जाते हैं। किसी भी स्पीच में संज्ञा का बार बार प्रयोग उचित नहीं होता है।

e.g., Rohan lives in Rajasthan. He studies in Class X.

Here, “He” is a pronoun that is replacing Rohan.

Types of Pronouns

10 types of Pronouns can be used in Parts of Speech

  • Personal Pronoun: I, we, you, etc.
  • Demonstrative Pronoun: this, that, those
  • Indefinite Pronouns: none, all, somebody
  • Interrogative Pronouns: what, who, whom
  • Relative Pronouns: whom, whose, which
  • Possessive Pronouns: my, mine, his, her
  • Absolute Possessive Pronoun: mine, yours, hers
  • Reciprocal Pronouns: each other, one another
  • Reflexive Pronouns: myself, herself, themselves
  • Emphatic: himself, myself, herself,

Those were the pronouns you can use in Parts of Speech Hindi. We will learn about their uses in upcoming posts.

3. Verb (क्रिया)

These are the action words that specify any action which is happening, has happened, or will happen.

e.g., Kunal writes a poem.

Here writes the action Kunal is performing.

Joiners in Parts of Speech

As the name suggests, joiners are used to join. But what they join depends upon their type and use. There are 2 types of Joiners in the English language that you will learn today in the Parts of Speech Hindi tutorial.

1. Conjunctions

These are words that join words or a group of words. E.g., Although, Because, If, While, Neither-nor, Either-or, But, Or, etc.

ये ऐसे शब्द हैं जो शब्दों या शब्दों के समूह को जोड़ते हैं

We will discuss about types of conjunctions in upcoming posts.

2. Prepositions

Prepositions are another type of joiners. They also join words and sentences, but their function is quite different than that of conjunctions’. Prepositions are the words that join Nouns with other parts of a sentence.

In Hindi:

Prepositions वे शब्द हैं, जो Noun को वाक्य के अन्य भागों के साथ जोड़ते हैं। आप Prepositions के बारे में ऐसे शब्दों के रूप में समझ सकते हैं जो दूसरे शब्दों के बीच संबंधों को सूचित करते हैं।

For example, A postcard arrived for Subhash from Nidhi telling about her trip to Canada.

Here, for, from, about, and to are prepositions which are connecting respective nouns with other parts of a sentence.

You can understand prepositions as words that indicate relationships between other words in a sentence or speech.

Modifiers

Modifiers are another important Parts of Speech. Their work is to modify Nouns and Verbs to improvise their use in a sentence.

1. Adjectives

An adjective is a word or phrase that changes, modifies, or describes the meaning of a Noun or Pronoun in a sentence. Adjectives usually represent the quality, quantity, colour, size, etc. of a Noun.

Adjective वो शब्द हैं जो Noun को modify (संशोधित) करके उसका अर्थ परिवर्तित करते हैं।

  • Ram is a good boy.
  • Did you lose your address book?
  • You are a very beautiful girl.

In the above sentences, Good, Address, & Very Beautiful are adjectives that modify the Noun and change its meaning.

उपरोक्त वाक्यों में Good, Address और Very Beautiful adjective हैं जो Noun को संशोधित करते हैं और उसका अर्थ बदलते हैं। Adjectives आमतौर पर संज्ञा की गुणवत्ता, मात्रा, रंग, आकार आदि को दर्शाते हैं।

2. Adverbs

Adverbs का काम भी संशोधित करना है, लेकिन वे संज्ञा के बजाय क्रिया (Verb) को संशोधित (Modify) करते हैं. Adverbs are used to modify the verb.

  • An adverb can modify, can change, or can be added to a verb.

e.g.,

  • Yesterday, we went to the beach
  • Baby slept soundly
  • I run often
  • I put the mousetrap there

Emotive

Emotive is used to express emotions or feelings.

1. Interjection

The exclamatory words or phrase that express feelings or emotions. विस्मयादिबोधक शब्द या वाक्यांश जो भावनाओं को व्यक्त करते हैं।

e.g.,

  • Wow!
  • My goodness!
  • What a cute baby!
  • What a beautiful day!

Article / Determiners

Articles or Determiners are also sometimes used as Parts of Speech. These are the words or phrases that occur together with a Noun and serve its reference. In short, these are used to determine or decides the reference to the Noun.

e.g., a, an, the, this, that, my, mine, etc.

Please note that officially you will find only 8 parts of the speech. But some books and some Grammarians include Article / Determiners as 9th Part of Speech. Mostly these are used as Adjective and Pronouns. कृपया ध्यान दें कि आधिकारिक तौर पर आपको 8 Parts of Speech मिलेंगे। लेकिन कुछ पुस्तकों और कुछ व्याकरणियों में Article / Determiners शामिल हैं। अधिकतर इनका उपयोग Adjective और Pronouns के रूप में किया जाता है।
